"In the penitential seasons we focus on overcoming our weaknesses, getting rid of our hang-ups, and reaching Christian maturity...Though lip service is paid to the gospel of grace, many Christians live as if it is only personal discipline and self-denial that will mold the perfect me. The emphasis is on what I do rather than on what God is doing." (p.18)
~Brennan Manning, The Raggamuffin Gospel
"The emphasis is on what I do rather than on what God is doing." That's mighty convicting in my own life right now. Just thought it was a good reminder. Anyone else struggle with the same thing?

a resounding yes paul shaffner.
and thank you for helping to remind me.
i received a thot from a friend the other day - something to the effect of - "Jesus loves me this I know... why is it that we live as if we are trying to make that true rather than living as if it is already true?"
good thots, good questions...
