Field Trip
On Friday, we traveled with the Lloyd-Jones and Coppolillo families on a home school field trip to Tanzania's largest hydroelectric dam on the Iringa-Dodoma road. Generally visitors aren't allowed to photograph here, but due to Pete Coppolillo's connection, we were guided around the facility by the Chief Engineer and encouraged to take all the photographs we wanted.
Our tour started on top of the dam where two cement intakes two meters in diameter swallow water. It then plunges 100 meters down through the bedrock to the turbines. We hopped in vehicles and drove down a 1 km tunnel that took us down all 100 meters to the power generating station for a behind-the-scenes tour.
I have a new set on my flickr site, for those interested in a photo tour!

I love that you can't take pictures in places like that. Why exactly? Becuase we might steal their technological secrets? :) Tell Kat I say she's hot.
